Great wine starts with great vineyards. We here at Borjon Winery, strongly believe this to be true. This is why we aquire grapes from some of the best vineyards that Amador County has to offer. Amador County's rich soils and moderate climate makes it an ideal location for producing high quality grapes.

Zinfandel

Amador County is renowned for its spicey, old vine Zinfandels. With some of the Zinfandel vineyards dating back to the mid 1800s. All of the Zinfandel wines created at Borjon Winery come from hand selected, dry-farmed vineyards. One of these vineyards, Clockspring Vineyards, is owned and operated by Mr. Frank Alviso. Frank is a pioneer in Zinfandel production and organic growing practices in Northern California. The vines are 40+ years old and trained in a head-prunned position (an ideal position for producing and yielding amazing Zinfandel fruit).

Barbera

Barbera is an Italian grape varietal that has generated an amazing following in California over the years. Especially Amador County Barbera. Borjon Winery is truly blessed to be able to acquire Barbera grapes from Cooper Vineyards owned and operated by Mr. Dick Cooper. Dick is known throughout California as "The Godfather Of Barbera" due to the unique and desired quality of fruit he produces. His head-pruned Barbera vineyards yield fruity, intense and well balanced grapes that create world class wines.

Everything Else On The Vine

Our Primitivo, Sangiovese, Garnacha, and Tempranillo also come from Clockspring Vineyards. Mr. Alviso grows these varietals with the same enthusiasm he gives his world class Zinfandels. Cooper Vineyards also produces Petite Sirah for us that is a key ingredient to Petite Sirah Reposado. We also acquire Barbera from the Manby Vineyard operated by Terry Harvey. This Barbera is grown in the exact same form as the Barbera found at Cooper Vineyards and always delivers distinct suberb flavors.
