The Family
The Borjon family comes from the small town of Paracuaro in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. They arrived to the Shenandoah Valley over 25 years ago and have been providing the valley with labor services since 1991. Since the arrival to the Shenandoah Valley, they enjoyed the taste of wine and always dreamt of having a winery of their own. Watching the valley grow beautifully with many wineries in the past 25 years, added to the thought of having their own one day.

Iscander Borjon also known as “Isy“, the middle child of three, had been handed down the family business and had begun his own life marrying his beautiful wife Eliana. Together they created Borjon Winery.

Taking the information that they had received over years of working with vineyards and wineries, they selected some of the best grapes that Amador County produces to create Borjon wines. Also, taking some of the local wine making techniques and adding some of their own ideas to create their versions of great Amador County wines.

The family name, Borjon, originates from the country of France with IsyBorjon’s great, great grandfather arriving to Mexico during the French/Mexican war or also known as the Maxamillion Affair that took place in the mid 1860s.

Borjon Winery’s logo (the cowboy) was designed by Isy and is created from an actual picture of Isy’s father, Jesus Borjon Jr.

With the help of his parents, Isy and his wife Eliana created Borjon Winery and opened in May of 2009. Producing less than 1200 cases for their first vintage to keep quantity low, to keep quality high.

Isy’s Story
“Everyone has a dream, and I think that it’s ‘the drive’ inside that determines whether that dream stays a dream or becomes a reality.”

“My parents, Nora & Jesus Borjon, came to the Shenandoah Valley at a very young age. My mother being a house wife, and a mother of three, and my father was a vineyard worker. Doing almost every job that can be done in a vineyard, from tractor work to harvesting grapes. This went on for sometime. Until that ‘drive’ kicked in.”

“I think it’s the same in any industry. Every employee is always looking up ‘the ladder’. Dreaming of what it would be like to be at the top. My father knew that it wouldn’t be easy but he was determined and had that ‘drive’… So, my parents worked hard, saved as much money as they could and began a small labor contracting company that, in 18 years, expanded to a size they never imagined. The company is still in business. Bigger than ever and now owned and operated by me.”

“Growing up around all the vineyards and wineries in the area, I began to have my own dream. Knowing that it also was a dream that my father had, probably added to my drive of owning my own winery. Now married to my beautiful wife, Eliana, we put everything we could into creating a more secure future for us and our family.”
