Borjón Cabernet Update

2/19/13 – The 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is even better than we could have imagined! Harvested on October 20th 2012, the young wine is now 4 months old and showing incredible complexity already. It is quietly aging in the brand new French oak barrels it was fermented in. Stay tuned for periodic updates and the release of this beauty in the Fall of 2014!

Best,

Joe Shebl

Tasting Fees in Amador County

12/1/12 – There have been many questions over the past few weeks regarding tasting fees in Amador County. We would like to take a moment to elaborate.

A reputation for premium wines and hospitable service have both contributed to an exponential growth in the areas popularity. The word is out that Amador County is a great place to visit for top notch wines that you can sample FREE OF CHARGE before making your purchase.

The unfortunate part, is that Amador’s growing popularity hasn’t only attracted wine “buyers”. There is a sizable percentage of folks who view Amador as “free wine country”. They come in groups of all sizes with no intention of purchasing wine and are committed only to taking advantage of the absence of a tasting fee.

As a community, Amador Wine Country sees the same groups time and time again. This is not to say that the folks who continuously contribute to keeping us in business by purchasing when they visit go unrecognized. Our region held out hope that ALL of our guests would eventually realize the wine we produce is our livelihood. We rely on wine sales to keep us in business.

That being said, a majority of Amador County Wineries are adopting tasting fees. Amador County Wineries ARE NOT however looking to gouge folks with an astronomical, non-refundable, “Napa style” tasting fee. Now while we can’t speak for the entire area, at Borjon Winery as of December 1st, 2012 we are implementing a minimal $5 tasting fee for our Clásico flight which will be credited towards wine purchase (one credit per person per purchase). Our wine club members will continue to taste our Clásico flight and wine club exclusive wines free of charge for their loyalty.

Please forward any questions you have about this policy to info@borjonwinery.com.

Barbera Reserva To Come Back For 2012 Vintage.

10/29/12 – Isy Borjon confirmed today that, due to the stellar quality of the grapes from the 2012 harvest, the Barbera Reserva would make a come back. After the success of our first ever Barbera Reserva for the 2009 vintage, it was only a matter of stumbling upon such phenomenal grapes again. In Isy’s own words, “The Barbera Reserva will only be made on years where it is appropriate and not just because we can.”

He also went on to say that we can expect other new wines for 2012. Not so much as new varietals, but other variations of current varietals… The suspense is amazing!
